My Hardest But Most Rewarding Class in College

This semester I took Advanced MultiMedia Digital Storytelling where I got to work on different multimedia projects that have strengthened my storytelling, communication, problem-solving and digital media skills. This course has prepared me for success after I graduate this fall by equipping me with all the tools I need to properly brand myself and the future companies that I create. Advanced Multimedia Digital Storytelling was by far one of the most challenging but rewarding classes that I have taken throughout my entire college career. Throughout the semester I was able to finish four unique projects.

Four Projects

The first project I created was an individual website portfolio/resume for myself. I was also able to buy the domain of Brookedominiak.com so I will be able to use this as my digital resume in 2023 in my job at Adobe and throughout my future career. This website consists of different multimedia of photos, videos, graphics, audio, writings and blog posts. This website includes six different sections. The first section is my about page where I discuss who I am and my different experiences in education, programs, academies, and accelerators. The next section is my experience section which features an interactive list of photos/videos of my relevant work experience. Then I feature all the specific honors and awards that I have earned during my 3.5 years of college. Next to the experiences section is my involvements which displays many of the clubs that I am involved in and my hobbies. Finally, the last two sections show my creative side with my entrepreneurship ideas and my writings which include various blog posts. Thus, my unique website will serve as an introduction that will be placed below my email signature next year when working for Adobe and will forever live on my LinkedIn.

The second project was an individual multimedia project on FUSEA which is The Furman University Student Entrepreneurship Association that I am the President of. I first made a FUSEA Website to help spread awareness of the club on campus. This website was so fun to make for my club because it not only helped me grow my multimedia skills but because it also benefited the association and the student’s experience in FUSEA! I am very proud of the website that I created and I love how interactive it is with moving pictures, graphics, texts and videos. The website not only explains what FUSEA is to new students but it also serves as a hub of resources for existing students. This website includes a personalized calendar, showcases the executive team, introduces the FUSEA members, displays many graphics, pictures, videos, news, the merchandise store and resources that I made! In this project, I not only created a website but also developed a personalized brand kit for FUSEA as well as 30+ graphics for both print and social media.

The third project was my favorite project because I got to use my storytelling abilities to tell the story of my life through a 7-minute mini-documentary. This story will be featured on both the FUSEA website and my personal website. I loved this project because I got to work and learn how to use so many different media types. In addition, I am very proud of this project and I showcased it to everyone at my graduation party and I loved how I was able to inspire others with my unique journey and ability to story tell.

The fourth project was a group multimedia consulting project with the Furman University Counseling Center. This project involved conducting a survey, meeting with our clients, developing a brand kit, designing a new logo, writing scripts, recording videos and interviews, taking photos, editing videos, creating graphics, shooting drone shots, presenting our project, and creating numerous graphics to help the Counseling Center better educate, advertise, and brand their institution. This project was great for my future in sales at Adobe because it taught me how to use various digital media, stay organized, plan ahead, and how to collaborate with a team as well as problem solve with a client.

My favorite lesson that I learned throughout the class readings was the 10 Golden Rules for Branding. I was able to use these rules to help brand my individual website/project, my entrepreneurship website/club, and with our group project with the Counseling Center. I learned and realized how important it is to stay consistent with your brand and to constantly be living your brand in your daily life. I plan to take all of these skills that I learned in this class in my career at Adobe, and into my own start-up companies one day as a successful entrepreneur where I will know how to properly tell a story, collaborate with a team and use multi mass media element’s to portray my thoughts to the world.
